Morocco's Partnership with Saudi Arabia Leads to Four Successful Twin Separation Surgeries
Morocco’s collaboration with Saudi Arabia has resulted in four successful surgeries under the Conjoined Twins Separation Program, showcasing the nations' shared commitment to humanitarian and medical advancements.
Morocco has marked a significant milestone in global healthcare through its involvement in Saudi Arabia’s Conjoined Twins Separation Program. Four Moroccan twins have successfully undergone separation surgeries, highlighting the fruitful partnership between the two nations.
This achievement was confirmed by Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, Advisor to the Saudi Royal Court and General Supervisor of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief). Speaking at a press conference, Al-Rabeeah emphasized the global impact of the program, which has evaluated 143 cases from 26 countries over more than three decades.
“Sharing expertise has been fundamental to these successes,” Al-Rabeeah remarked, noting Morocco’s active role in developing advanced surgical techniques for conjoined twin separation.
Program Achievements and Global Recognition
Since its inception, the program has conducted 61 successful surgeries, including complex cases involving parasitic twins. Among these are the four surgeries performed on Moroccan twins, underscoring the program's reach and effectiveness.
In recognition of Saudi Arabia’s leadership in this field, the United Nations has designated November 24 as International Conjoined Twins Day. This acknowledgment aligns with a major international conference currently hosted in Riyadh under the patronage of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The two-day event showcases the program's accomplishments through exhibitions and discussions on the scientific, humanitarian, and technical dimensions of conjoined twin separation. Additionally, agreements are being forged with the UN and other global organizations to further child welfare initiatives worldwide.
Strengthening Medical Collaboration
Morocco’s participation reflects Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to enhance partnerships with Arab and African nations. This collaboration bolsters medical expertise and facilitates knowledge transfer, illustrating a shared commitment to advancing healthcare and humanitarian efforts.
The successful surgeries not only exemplify the program’s excellence but also underscore the strong bilateral ties between Morocco and Saudi Arabia in addressing global medical challenges.
