Morocco's manufacturing producer prices rise modestly in April 2026
Morocco's manufacturing sector recorded a 0.3% increase in producer price index in April 2026 compared to the previous month, according to data released by the High Commission for Planning (HCP). The overall rise was driven primarily by price gains in the food and chemical industries, even as several other industrial branches registered declines or held steady.
Food industry prices climbed 0.7% during the month, with the sector's index moving from 121.3 to 122.1 points. The chemical industry followed with a 0.4% increase, its index rising from 138.8 to 139.4 points. These two sectors served as the primary engines behind the sector-wide uptick, reflecting continued demand pressures and input cost dynamics in those branches.
Not all manufacturing segments moved in the same direction. The clothing and apparel industry recorded the steepest decline, with its producer price index falling 0.8%, dropping from 123.7 to 122.7 points. Metallurgy posted a 0.3% decrease, while the fabrication of metal products, excluding machinery and equipment, edged down by 0.1%. The majority of remaining manufacturing branches maintained stable price levels throughout the month, contributing little movement to the overall index in either direction.
The most striking development of the month came from the "other manufacturing industries" category, which posted an exceptional 14% surge, with its index jumping from 190.4 to 217.1 points. This sharp movement stood in stark contrast to the broad stability seen across most other industrial activities and warrants close monitoring in the months ahead to determine whether it reflects a structural shift or a temporary anomaly.
Outside the manufacturing sector, prices remained entirely flat. The extractive industries held their index at 100.5 points, while electricity production and distribution, as well as water production and distribution, both stayed fixed at 100 points. The absence of any variation in these utility and resource sectors indicates that inflationary pressures in April were confined largely to specific manufacturing branches rather than spreading across the broader industrial economy.
Taken together, April 2026 data paint a picture of measured, uneven price movement within Morocco's manufacturing sector. The moderate aggregate increase masks significant divergence across branches, with food and chemicals pulling prices upward while apparel and metallurgy soften. The exceptional spike in the residual manufacturing category adds a note of uncertainty to an otherwise restrained overall reading.
