Morocco’s Institute for Transport and Logistics Training (IFTL) has entered into a significant partnership with renowned researcher Professor Rachid Yazami to establish a specialized training program focused on electric vehicle batteries. This initiative is a key component of Morocco’s broader strategy to enhance its transportation system and promote the use of green energy, contributing to global climate change mitigation efforts.

The strategic agreement, signed in Nouaceur, introduces a vocational certificate in Electric Vehicle Battery Maintenance. This bachelor-level program aims to cultivate highly skilled technicians equipped to perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and safety management of lithium batteries. Professor Yazami, celebrated for inventing the graphite anode used in lithium-ion batteries and a recipient of the prestigious Draper Prize from the US National Academy of Engineering, will oversee the program’s development.

“This partnership addresses the growing electrification of transportation and the need for high-level local expertise to support the energy transition,” remarked an IFTL spokesperson during the signing ceremony.

Set to launch in October 2025, the certificate program will incorporate hands-on learning experiences, including corporate internships and practical case studies. The instruction will be delivered in both French and English, facilitated by national and international experts, with a focus on language reinforcement to prepare graduates for the global job market.

IFTL operates as a public institution under the management of the Federation of Transport and Logistics and the oversight of Morocco’s Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills. This initiative forms part of the “Compact II” program, a collaboration between Morocco and the US government through the Millennium Challenge Corporation, aimed at enhancing the quality of human capital in Morocco.

The training initiative aligns with Morocco's ambition to improve its transportation infrastructure, particularly as it prepares to host two significant sporting events: the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the FIFA 2030 World Cup, which will be co-hosted with Spain and Portugal. Through these efforts, Morocco is positioning itself as a leader in the transition to sustainable energy solutions.
