Morocco’s diplomacy earns Russian praise for advancing peace in the Palestine-Israel conflict

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has lauded Morocco’s consistent and constructive role in promoting efforts to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, emphasizing its contribution to regional peace diplomacy.

During a joint press conference in Moscow with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, Lavrov said that Morocco “traditionally plays a very important role in supporting efforts for the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue.” Both ministers discussed the evolving situation in Gaza and reiterated their shared commitment to fostering conditions for sustainable peace.

Lavrov expressed satisfaction with the recent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, viewing it as an essential first step toward stability. He also referred to the outcomes of the October 13 Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit, stressing the need for strict implementation of the agreements reached.

The Russian minister highlighted the importance of ensuring an uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza and advancing large-scale reconstruction projects for the region’s devastated infrastructure. “These are serious issues that must be addressed without compromising the full implementation of UN resolutions on the establishment of a Palestinian state,” Lavrov noted.

For his part, Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to a political solution grounded in justice and international law. He welcomed the ceasefire and stressed the importance of respecting its terms while opening a credible political path for a lasting peace.

“Morocco remains attached to the two-state solution as the only viable framework for achieving a just and enduring peace,” Bourita said, underscoring Rabat’s longstanding position in favor of a Palestinian state within the June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The meeting underscored the strengthening of diplomatic dialogue between Morocco and Russia on Middle Eastern affairs and reflected Rabat’s growing influence as a mediator promoting balanced, constructive engagement in regional peace efforts.
