Morocco promotes investment opportunities to Chinese firms during Beijing visit
Morocco is stepping up efforts to attract Chinese investment as senior officials promote the country’s economic potential during high-level discussions in Beijing.
The initiative was led by Morocco’s Minister Delegate for Investment, Convergence and Public Policy Evaluation, Karim Zidane, who highlighted the country’s investment opportunities during a meeting with senior Chinese business officials.
Speaking in Beijing, Zidane met with China Council for the Promotion of International Trade President Ren Hongbin, in the presence of Morocco’s ambassador to China, Abdelkader El Ansari. The discussions focused on strengthening economic ties and encouraging Chinese companies to expand their operations in Morocco.
Zidane emphasized that Morocco offers a competitive and transparent business environment supported by investment incentives designed to facilitate foreign direct investment. He reiterated his ministry’s readiness to assist Chinese firms in developing projects across key sectors of the Moroccan economy.
The visit reflects ongoing efforts to deepen economic cooperation between Morocco and China, building on a strategic partnership established in 2016 that significantly expanded bilateral relations.
Moroccan authorities have increasingly positioned the country as a regional gateway for investment into Africa and Europe, supported by infrastructure development, regulatory reforms, and sector-specific industrial strategies. These efforts are aimed at enhancing competitiveness and attracting long-term capital inflows.
During the meeting, officials underscored the importance of strengthening public-private partnerships and expanding cooperation in areas such as manufacturing, infrastructure, renewable energy, and logistics.
China is already one of Morocco’s key economic partners, with growing engagement in industrial projects and trade exchanges. The latest discussions signal an ambition to further scale up cooperation and diversify investment flows between the two countries.
Morocco’s broader economic strategy, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, has focused on improving the country’s attractiveness to global investors through structural reforms and enhanced governance frameworks.
