Morocco powers past Saudi Arabia to reach Islamic Solidarity Games futsal final
Morocco’s national futsal team secured a spot in the final of the Islamic Solidarity Games after defeating Saudi Arabia 6–3 in a thrilling semi-final held in Riyadh. The match, part of the sixth edition of the Games running until November 21, showcased intense competition between two evenly matched sides.
The opening half ended goalless despite several close chances. Early in the second half, Morocco broke the deadlock before Saudi Arabia’s Ihab Al-Saeed equalized soon after. Moroccan forward Ismail Amzal then shifted the game’s momentum with two decisive goals, giving his team a strong advantage. Saudi Arabia managed to narrow the scoreline just before the end of regulation time, pushing the match into extra time.
In the decisive minutes, Morocco’s offensive strength shone through as they netted three additional goals to secure a commanding win. The North African side also struck the crossbar three times, underscoring their dominance throughout the match.
With this victory, Morocco advances to face Iran in the championship final. Iran earned its place after a 4–2 triumph over Uzbekistan.
Morocco’s delegation at the Islamic Solidarity Games includes 76 athletes participating in 12 disciplines, among them athletics, judo, karate, taekwondo, wrestling, muay thai, jiu-jitsu, duathlon, para weightlifting, e-sports, futsal, and sports for athletes with disabilities.
The futsal team’s success highlights Morocco’s growing presence across multiple sports at the regional level and strengthens hopes for a gold medal as the nation heads into the final with renewed confidence.
