Morocco positioned to lead intra-African trade

Morocco is set to play a pivotal role in boosting trade within Africa, according to Adam Elhiraika, director of the Economic Commission for Africa at the United Nations. Speaking during the fifth edition of an economic forum in Fès, he highlighted Morocco's unique potential to benefit from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Elhiraika emphasized that by strengthening its industrial capabilities and deepening trade ties with other African nations, Morocco is well placed to drive the continent's economic transformation. The country has made significant investments in infrastructure, particularly in the service and renewable energy sectors, showcasing a commitment to advancing education, improving networks, and signing agreements that enhance market connectivity across Africa.

He also pointed out that Africa’s heavy reliance on imported manufactured goods presents a strategic opportunity for nations like Morocco, which has a growing and efficient manufacturing sector capable of meeting regional demand.

The forum, held under the royal patronage of King Mohammed VI, brought together representatives from various African and European countries. Organized by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services, this fifth edition focused on the theme "Invest, Innovate, Cooperate: Keys to a Shared Future," featuring delegates from over 20 countries and more than 52 professional chambers.
