Morocco Launches Nationwide Measles Immunization Drive

In a proactive effort to combat the resurgence of measles and fortify public health defenses, the Moroccan Ministry of Health and Social Protection has launched a comprehensive nationwide campaign to boost measles vaccination rates across the kingdom.

The initiative, unveiled through an official press release, aims to restore child immunization levels to their pre-COVID-19 pandemic highs. During the pandemic, there was a concerning decline in vaccine coverage throughout Morocco's regions and provinces.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Ministry has issued a fervent appeal to all families, especially parents and guardians, to promptly review their children's medical records at healthcare facilities and private clinics. Children aged between nine and eighteen months who have not yet received the vital measles doses are urged to do so without delay.

Furthermore, the Ministry has emphasized the critical importance of administering two doses of the vaccine to unvaccinated children and ensuring that those who have received only one dose complete the regimen.

This nationwide drive is a pivotal component of the Ministry's overarching communication strategy to monitor the epidemiological evolution of measles and its ongoing efforts to safeguard public health by preventing the proliferation of epidemiological diseases.

Acknowledging the escalating threat posed by measles cases emerging across Morocco, the Ministry has underscored the virus's potential to spread rapidly, heightening the risk of outbreaks and exposing unvaccinated children to grave dangers, including the tragic possibility of death.

Echoing the World Health Organization's (WHO) repeated warnings regarding the global decline in disease surveillance and vaccination rates, the Ministry implores all concerned parties to actively participate in this crucial operation by visiting health centers to obtain the measles vaccination free of charge.

Through this comprehensive immunization campaign, Morocco aims to strengthen its defenses against the resurgence of measles, protecting its citizens and society from the perils of this highly contagious disease.
