Morocco in Group A for CHAN 2024 alongside Kenya, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia
The Moroccan local football team has been placed in Group A for the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), alongside Kenya, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia. The draw for the group stage took place on Wednesday in Nairobi. Morocco, the champions of the 2018 and 2020 editions held in their home country, will play the group stage matches in Nairobi.
Meanwhile, Senegal, the defending champions, have been placed in Group D, where they will compete with Congo, Sudan, and Nigeria.
Due to the withdrawal of certain teams during the qualifiers, two spots remain unfilled. Additional qualifying tournaments will be held to determine the teams that will occupy these positions.
Originally scheduled from February 1 to 28 in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, the CHAN tournament has been postponed to August 2025. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that technical and infrastructure experts, some based in the host countries, requested extra time to ensure the necessary facilities and infrastructure are up to standard to successfully host the competition.
The exact start date for CHAN will be revealed by CAF at a later time.
Groupings:
- Group A: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia
- Group B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic
- Group C: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Q2, Q1
- Group D: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria
Note: Q1 and Q2 refer to the teams that will qualify through additional tournaments before the competition.
