Morocco expands national appliance manufacturing with $10 million MANAR project

Morocco has launched new industrial production lines at the MANAR Group facility in Agadir as part of a strategy to strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity and reduce reliance on imported household appliances. The expansion targets the production of freezers and double-door refrigerators equipped with Total No Frost technology.

The project represents an investment of MAD 94 million, equivalent to roughly $10 million, according to official figures. It forms part of a broader national industrial transformation agenda focused on increasing local production capacity and reinforcing industrial sovereignty. The initiative aligns with efforts to promote locally made products and strengthen the competitiveness of national industry.

The upgraded facility is expected to significantly expand output. Annual refrigerator production capacity is projected at 23,000 units, with long-term plans to reach 95,000 units by 2030. Freezer production is also set to increase to 35,000 units per year over the same period. Authorities estimate that the expansion will cover about 18 percent of refrigerator imports and 20 percent of freezer imports, reducing pressure on foreign supply.

The project also carries a strong employment and economic development dimension. It has created 133 direct qualified jobs, bringing total permanent staff at the site to 728. Officials project additional economic activity worth approximately MAD 365 million, driven by local integration reaching 51 percent. Government representatives highlighted the role of long-standing national industrial actors in building a more competitive manufacturing base capable of meeting domestic demand and regional market ambitions.
