Morocco confirms regional leadership in intellectual property for the fourth consecutive year
Morocco has maintained its regional leadership in intellectual property for the fourth consecutive year, ranking 22nd globally in the 2026 edition of the International Intellectual Property Index.
The ranking, published by the United States Chamber of Commerce, highlights Morocco’s ongoing progress in strengthening its national framework for intellectual and industrial property, according to the Office Marocain de la Propriété Industrielle et Commerciale (OMPIC).
Morocco obtained an overall score of 59.19 points, reflecting improvements aimed at supporting innovation and enhancing the country’s intellectual property ecosystem. The report notes several key developments, including the kingdom’s accession to new international treaties and stronger cooperation mechanisms for patent examination.
Among the initiatives highlighted are accelerated patent examination programs and a validation system developed in partnership with the European Patent Office.
The report also points to a steady increase in filings for trademarks, patents, and industrial designs. These trends indicate a consolidation of Morocco’s national intellectual property system and underline its role in strengthening the country’s economic competitiveness.
Morocco’s continued leadership in Africa and the Arab world reflects the country’s efforts to promote innovation, protect creators’ rights, and attract investment in technology and research-driven sectors.
