Morocco and Spain dismantle drug networks, seize 22 tons of hashish
A joint security operation between Morocco and Spain has successfully dismantled two international criminal organizations involved in large-scale hashish trafficking. The coordinated effort, led by Spain’s National Police and Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), resulted in the arrest of 20 suspects and the seizure of over 22 tons of hashish.
The drugs were concealed within shipments of green peppers being transported from Morocco to Spain via the Port of Algeciras in Cádiz. Acting on intelligence provided by Moroccan authorities, investigators identified two refrigerated truck convoys suspected of carrying illicit substances.
The first convoy was intercepted in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz, where officers uncovered 12 tons of hashish hidden in double compartments behind peppers. This operation led to 15 arrests. Three days later, a second raid in Granada province uncovered another 8 tons of hashish, resulting in five additional arrests.
In total, authorities confiscated nine vehicles, including trucks and trailers, along with one automatic weapon and over €7,000 in cash. All suspects face charges of drug trafficking and participation in a criminal organization.
The operation highlighted the strong security partnership between Morocco and Spain. The Spanish National Police praised the collaboration with Moroccan authorities, emphasizing the success of their coordinated efforts in dismantling transnational drug trafficking networks. This operation underscores the mutual trust and effective coordination between the two nations in their fight against organized crime.
