Morocco and Iraq strengthen cooperation on employment and economic inclusion

On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Moroccan and Iraqi officials met in Rabat to discuss ways to deepen cooperation in the fields of employment, economic inclusion, and vocational training. The meeting brought together Morocco’s Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, and Iraq’s Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Jassem Saber Al-Asadi.

The two ministers focused on developing institutional partnerships to address shared labor market challenges and to enhance mutual expertise in workforce development. The meeting is part of a renewed dynamic in Moroccan-Iraqi relations, rooted in shared political will and strategic alignment.

Minister Sekkouri highlighted that the discussions aimed to promote knowledge exchange, skill development, and economic openness. He announced that both sides agreed to draft new cooperation agreements in the coming weeks, which will aim to improve coordination on employment policies and programs.

For his part, Minister Al-Asadi praised Morocco’s social and economic achievements under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. He expressed Iraq’s interest in learning from Morocco’s experience in professional training and labor inclusion.

The Iraqi minister also emphasized the importance of facilitating mobility and cooperation between professionals in both countries, pointing to the need for stronger collaboration in developing human capital and fostering entrepreneurship.

This bilateral dialogue signals a promising step toward deeper South-South cooperation in employment strategy, innovation, and capacity-building between the two nations.
