Morocco and Bangladesh explore new avenues to deepen bilateral cooperation

Morocco and Bangladesh have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral relations, with senior officials meeting in Dhaka to discuss new opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, technology and cultural exchanges.

The talks brought together Morocco's Ambassador to Bangladesh, Bouthaina El Kerdoudi El Koulali, and Bangladesh's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Shama Obaed Islam, as both countries seek to build on the positive momentum in their diplomatic partnership.

Stronger ties across multiple sectors

During the meeting, the two officials welcomed recent progress in bilateral relations, highlighting several developments that have strengthened cooperation in recent months.

These include Minister Obaed Islam's visit to Rabat in May for the Second Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in Francophone Environments, the renewal of the long-standing strategic partnership in fertilizer supplies, and continued coordination between Morocco and Bangladesh within multilateral organizations.

The discussions also explored opportunities to broaden cooperation into new strategic sectors, including trade, investment, technology transfer and digital solutions.

Bangladesh sees Morocco as a gateway to Africa

Obaed Islam described her recent visit to Morocco as highly productive, praising the country's economic and institutional development while emphasizing Bangladesh's interest in strengthening its partnership with Rabat.

She noted that Morocco's strategic location and strong economic links with the African continent make it an attractive gateway for Bangladeshi businesses seeking to expand into African markets.

The Bangladeshi minister also called for initiatives that would bring the two societies closer through increased cooperation in tourism, sports and cultural exchanges.

Expanding economic cooperation

For her part, Ambassador El Kerdoudi El Koulali highlighted the strength of bilateral trade, particularly Morocco's fertilizer exports, which continue to play a central role in economic relations between the two countries.

She welcomed Bangladesh's continued confidence in Moroccan fertilizer products while encouraging both governments to diversify commercial exchanges into higher-value industries.

Among the sectors identified as offering significant potential were pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, textiles and manufacturing.

Focus on joint ventures and technology transfer

The Moroccan ambassador also proposed exploring the creation of joint ventures, particularly in the textile and pharmaceutical industries.

Such partnerships, she said, could facilitate technology transfer, strengthen industrial cooperation and improve both countries' competitiveness in international markets.

Officials from both sides emphasized that Morocco and Bangladesh possess complementary economic strengths and strategic geographic positions, creating opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration that could provide broader access to markets in Africa and Asia.
