Moroccan TV channels air 105 ads on first day of Ramadan

Morocco’s national television channels marked the start of Ramadan with an unusually heavy advertising load, broadcasting 105 commercials on the first day alone, highlighting fierce competition among brands during one of the year’s most watched periods.

According to exclusive data obtained by Walaw, the advertisements were clustered around peak viewing slots, particularly in the minutes just before and after iftar, as well as during breaks in popular Ramadan series and sitcoms that traditionally attract large family audiences and drive ratings.

Food brands accounted for nearly half of the total spots, with 50 commercials airing on the first day. The surge reflects heightened household consumption during the holy month, when spending on groceries and related products rises sharply. Telecommunications companies followed with 11 advertisements, signaling strong rivalry through seasonal promotions and special Ramadan packages aimed at retaining and expanding customer bases.

Cleaning products secured nine spots, while beverage companies and banks each aired six commercials. Their presence, though more measured, points to targeted strategies focused on everyday consumption and financial services during a period marked by increased spending and family gatherings.

The volume of advertising underscores Ramadan’s role as the high season for Morocco’s media and marketing industry. Television channels compete intensely for audience share, while companies invest heavily in campaigns crafted to resonate with the month’s spirit and the shared viewing moments that define evenings during Ramadan. For broadcasters and advertisers alike, the holy month remains the most influential and commercially significant window of the year.
