Moroccan Othmane Maamma scores first goal for Watford
Moroccan footballer Othmane Maamma scored his first goal for Watford in a 2-1 defeat against Birmingham City on Monday, during the 18th round of the English Championship.
Maamma, who was named the best player at the last U20 World Cup, netted in the 61st minute, reducing the deficit after Watford had conceded two goals. He capitalized on a precise pass inside the penalty area to open his scoring account for the English club, which he joined during the summer transfer window on a four-year contract from Montpellier.
The young forward played 85 minutes before being substituted for teammate Moussa Sissoko. Watford hopes that Maamma will strengthen their attack and boost offensive efficiency as the season progresses.
Maamma gained international attention during the U20 World Cup in Chile, where he helped Morocco lift the trophy under coach Mohammed Ouahbi and was awarded the tournament’s best player.
