Moroccan authorities seize over 21,000 psychotropic pills hidden in toys at Tangier port
Moroccan security and customs officers at Tangier Med Port intercepted an international drug trafficking attempt, seizing 21,142 psychotropic pills concealed inside children’s toys.
The operation took place after officers, supported by trained sniffer dogs, inspected a foreign-registered utility vehicle arriving on a ferry from Spain. The inspection revealed thousands of pills cleverly hidden within toy packages, designed to mask the illicit cargo.
Authorities arrested the driver, a Moroccan national, who was placed in custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full scope of the trafficking network and its potential international connections.
This operation is part of Morocco’s sustained efforts to combat cross-border crime, particularly the trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances. Security and customs services have stepped up coordination at key entry points in recent months, in line with the country’s broader strategy to prevent the spread of illicit drugs and strengthen border surveillance.
Morocco has enhanced its anti-trafficking measures through advanced monitoring technologies and closer collaboration between security and customs authorities. Ports, airports, and border checkpoints are under heightened scrutiny to intercept narcotics and psychotropic substances before they can reach local or regional markets.
