Moroccan authorities dismantle terror cell linked to criminal activities

Moroccan security authorities have dismantled a suspected terrorist cell allegedly involved in a series of criminal activities linked to extremist ideology, according to an official statement.

The operation, carried out over two days, led to the arrest of six individuals in several locations, including Kenitra, Casablanca, and surrounding regions. Authorities stated that the suspects are believed to have engaged in organized criminal acts such as theft, burglary, and the laundering of illicit funds, reportedly justified under extremist interpretations.

Search operations conducted as part of the investigation resulted in the seizure of various materials, including documents promoting extremist ideas, weapons, and cash suspected to be linked to illegal activities. Additional items, such as vehicles and equipment believed to have been used in the crimes, were also confiscated.

Preliminary findings suggest that the group targeted rural livestock facilities, carrying out theft operations before reselling goods in local markets. Investigators believe these activities were part of a coordinated effort to generate income to support their operations.

Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the group’s activities, identify potential accomplices, and examine any connections to broader extremist networks. The suspects have been placed in custody pending further legal proceedings under the supervision of the relevant judicial authorities.
