Mehdi Benatia Appointed Football Director at Olympique Marseille
The French club Olympique Marseille (Ligue 1) recently announced the appointment of former Moroccan international and captain of the Atlas Lions, Mehdi Benatia, as the club's new Football Director. This announcement was made on Wednesday, marking a new chapter in Benatia's association with the club.
Benatia had already been serving as a sports advisor since November 2023, and his new role as Football Director further strengthens his connection to the club, which is dear to his heart. He will be working closely with President Pablo Longoria, who played a pivotal role in facilitating his return to Marseille.
Benatia, who began his football journey at Olympique Marseille's youth academy, went on to play for some of Europe’s most prestigious clubs, including Bayern Munich and Juventus FC. In his new position, he will oversee all aspects of the club’s sporting policy, from the youth academy to the first team. His involvement in the club's long-term sporting project has been substantial, with his input being particularly noted during the club's summer transfer market activities.
Olympique Marseille expressed its satisfaction with the appointment, highlighting Benatia's vision, experience, and professionalism as vital assets for the future success of the club. His leadership is expected to guide the club through an exciting and ambitious sporting journey.
