Mazan Rape Case: Sole appealing defendant sentenced to 10 years in Prison
The Nîmes Court of Appeal has sentenced Husamettin Dogan to 10 years in prison in the Mazan rape case, making him the only defendant to have appealed his previous conviction. Prosecutors had sought a 12-year sentence.
In the first trial, Dogan had been sentenced to nine years in prison. The general advocate, Dominique Sié, emphasized the severity of the crime, calling rape “a form of death — a slow and insidious destruction.” He added that Dogan was “fully responsible for his actions,” having “denied the humanity of Ms. (Gisèle) Pelicot” and “participated, like the others, in the massive destruction of a woman offered up to cruelty.”
Dogan now has 10 days to file an appeal before the Court of Cassation.
