Maritime crossings suspended between Algeciras, Tarifa and Tangier

Maritime connections between southern Spain and northern Morocco were suspended on Saturday due to adverse weather conditions affecting the Strait of Gibraltar, disrupting both passenger and freight traffic.

Port authorities in Algeciras announced the cancellation of all scheduled sailings for the day, following the temporary closure of the Tangier Med port complex from midday. According to official communications, the suspension applied to all departures initially planned from the morning hours.

The deteriorating sea conditions led to significant safety concerns, prompting authorities to halt operations across the affected routes. In addition to passenger services, access to the port of Algeciras was restricted for international road transport trucks bound for Tangier Med, further impacting cross-border logistics.

The port of Tarifa also confirmed the full suspension of its maritime links with the port of Tangier Ville, citing similar weather-related risks. These routes are among the busiest maritime corridors between Europe and Africa, regularly used by travelers and commercial operators.

Port officials indicated that services would resume once weather conditions improve and maritime safety can be fully ensured. Travelers and transport operators have been advised to stay informed through official port channels for updates on the resumption of crossings.
