Maritime Alert: Dangerous waves up to 8 meters hit Moroccan coasts
The Moroccan Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) has issued a maritime alert warning of extremely dangerous sea conditions along several coastal areas of the Kingdom.
Starting Friday afternoon, January 23, powerful swells from the west to northwest are expected to hit the northern and central Atlantic coasts, from Tangier to Agadir, with waves reaching 6 to 8 meters. The Strait of Gibraltar will also be affected, with waves of 4 to 6 meters, while the eastern Mediterranean coast, from El Jebha to Saïdia, is expected to see waves between 3 and 5 meters.
The most critical conditions are forecast for Saturday, January 24, exacerbated by high tides reaching up to 3.8 meters, particularly in the early morning and late afternoon. Moderate to strong westerly winds are also expected in the affected areas.
The DGM expects a gradual improvement starting Sunday afternoon, January 25, and calls for maximum caution, especially for maritime and coastal activities. Additional alerts will be published as conditions evolve.
