Man United’s Noussair Mazraoui doubtful for upcoming Atlas Lions call-up
The Moroccan national team faces a new setback as Noussair Mazraoui has joined the list of injured players just days before the official squad announcement. Mazraoui sustained an injury during Manchester United’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season, according to a club statement.
Forced to leave the pitch in the 20th minute due to muscle pain, Mazraoui was unable to finish the match. Consequently, he was not included in the squad traveling for Manchester United’s Asian tour.
The club’s statement noted that Dutch internationals Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee are traveling, while Lisandro Martinez remains sidelined with injury. Mazraoui is currently under medical evaluation after leaving the field early on Sunday. Diogo Dalot, who came on as a substitute, was also replaced at halftime but will join the team on tour.
This development complicates matters for national coach Walid Regragui, who is about to announce the squad for upcoming friendlies against Benin and Tunisia. Mazraoui joins fellow injured key players Brahim Diaz (Real Madrid) and Nayef Aguerd (Real Sociedad) on the injury list.
Regragui awaits detailed medical reports on these three players to decide on their potential participation. It is also reported that Mazraoui is experiencing significant fatigue due to a demanding match schedule with Manchester United this season.
The Atlas Lions will face Benin and Tunisia in friendly matches on June 6 and 9 at the Fès sports complex. These games serve as crucial preparation ahead of official competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations.
These friendlies will be an important test to assess player fitness and refine tactical choices as Regragui aims to build a strong, competitive squad ready to meet Moroccan fans’ expectations in future tournaments
