Macron pledges support for Cyprus amid security tensions
French President Emmanuel Macron spoke from Paphos, Cyprus, alongside Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, addressing regional security concerns following recent Iranian missile strikes. The attacks hit the British base at Akrotiri on March 1, prompting calls for stronger defense measures.
Macron emphasized that “an attack on Cyprus is an attack on Europe,” highlighting France’s commitment to the region through strategic partnerships. In response to the threats, France has deployed anti-air defense units and sent the frigate Languedoc to the area, demonstrating solidarity and readiness.
The president also underlined that these measures reflect not only military strength but also the enduring collaboration between allied nations, reinforcing trust and regional stability.
