Lithuania signals readiness to deploy hundreds of troops to Ukraine

Lithuania has indicated that it may deploy several hundred soldiers to Ukraine as part of future international security arrangements, once a peace agreement is in place.

The announcement was made by Lithuania’s defense minister, who explained that discussions are ongoing regarding possible contributions to post-conflict security mechanisms. While no operational details have been disclosed, the deployment would aim to support international guarantees designed to preserve stability and prevent a renewed escalation.

According to Lithuanian officials, any military presence would be linked to a broader framework involving European partners and the United States, including a U.S.-led ceasefire monitoring system. The initiative is intended to ensure that commitments made under a peace deal are respected on the ground.

The proposal follows high-level consultations among Western allies, where leaders emphasized the importance of coordinated security measures for Ukraine after hostilities end. Lithuania reaffirmed its alignment with European and transatlantic partners, underlining its long-standing support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Officials stressed that the situation remains fluid and that final decisions will depend on political, security and diplomatic developments in the coming months.
