Lebanon inspects markets to control fruit and vegetable prices

Lebanon’s Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, conducted inspections of local markets and storage warehouses on Monday to monitor the quantities, quality, and pricing of fruits and vegetables. The move comes amid ongoing tensions in the region as the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel enters its second week.

Officials visited major markets in Beirut, the North Lebanon region, and the Bekaa Valley to ensure there is no hoarding or artificial price inflation. The Ministry had previously noted that recent price increases for certain agricultural products were not justified.

Wholesale and retail prices for key products were announced, including milk at 64,000 LL ($0.70) wholesale and 73,000 LL ($0.80) retail per kilo, and cucumbers at 50,000 LL ($0.56) wholesale and 62,000 LL ($0.69) retail per kilo.

The Ministry emphasized that basic agricultural products are available in sufficient quantities on local markets. Imports remain open to guarantee stable supply and meet consumer needs during this period of heightened market scrutiny.
