Lando Norris seals first Formula 1 title in emotional McLaren triumph
Lando Norris captured his first Formula 1 World Championship in Abu Dhabi, marking a historic comeback for McLaren and a defining moment in the young Briton’s career. His third-place finish at Yas Marina Circuit secured enough points to edge out Max Verstappen in the final standings, ending the Dutch driver’s four-year championship streak.
Norris, 26, celebrated trackside with his girlfriend, Portuguese actress and model Margarida Corceiro, who joined him moments after the checkered flag. Their emotional embrace quickly became one of the highlights of McLaren’s title celebrations. The pair, who had an on-and-off relationship since 2023, appeared to confirm their reunion as Corceiro later shared a post on Instagram calling Norris “my little world champion.”
A breakthrough after years of persistence
The victory cements Norris as Britain’s 11th Formula 1 World Champion and the first McLaren driver to achieve this feat since Lewis Hamilton in 2008. After seven years in Formula 1 and multiple close calls, Norris maintained composure under relentless pressure from Verstappen and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to clinch a podium finish that sealed his championship.
McLaren’s resurgence capped an extraordinary season in which the team gradually closed the performance gap with Red Bull. The team’s technical upgrades and consistent podiums throughout 2025 positioned Norris as a serious contender. His teammate Oscar Piastri also played a pivotal role, pushing both to deliver one of McLaren’s strongest campaigns in over a decade.
Corceiro’s growing presence in the paddock
Corceiro, 22, who co-owns the Portuguese swimwear brand MISSUS Swimsuits, has become a regular in the McLaren garage during the latter stages of the season. Her presence alongside Norris’s family symbolized a supportive circle around the driver as he inched closer to his first title.
The actress, widely followed on social media, had previously dated footballer João Félix before being linked to Norris. Formula 1 commentators officially acknowledged their renewed relationship during the Spanish Grand Prix earlier this year, cementing their status as one of the sport’s most talked-about couples.
A new era for McLaren and Formula 1
Norris’s milestone victory signals a shift in Formula 1’s competitive landscape, with McLaren reclaiming its status among the sport’s elite. Fans and analysts see the 2025 season as a turning point, bringing fresh energy and rivalries to a championship long dominated by Red Bull.
For McLaren and its young champion, the triumph in Abu Dhabi stands not only as a personal achievement but also as a symbol of resilience, evolution, and renewed glory for one of Formula 1’s most legendary teams.
