Korean culture week in Rabat: A vibrant celebration of tradition and modernity
Rabat is set to welcome a vivid encounter with Korean culture as the Embassy of the Republic of Korea prepares to host the 2025 Korean Culture Week on May 15 and 16 at the Mohammed V Theater.
Over two carefully curated days, visitors and K-culture enthusiasts will discover a culture that moves between elegance and energy, as the embassy explained in a statement. The program mixes and matches refined traditions with contemporary flair, offering Moroccan audiences a glimpse into Korea’s many layers, from its lyrical past to its dynamic present.
The opening evening, scheduled for Wednesday, May 15 at 7 p.m., promises a memorable start. A classical concert titled “Arias of spring: Echoes of Korea” will pair Western opera with Gagok, a traditional Korean vocal form known for its emotional depth and poetic language. Musicians from the Regional Conservatory of Music and Choreographic Arts in Sale will join the stage, weaving Moroccan sounds into the performance. This unique encounter between two musical heritages invites the audience to listen across borders.
The following day, the theater’s grounds will transform into an open window onto Korean popular culture. Audiences can step into the surreal world of Squid Game through playful reinterpretations of the series’ now-famous games. The experience extends beyond this, featuring a Hanbok fashion show that brings traditional Korean attire to life, beauty demonstrations reflecting Korea’s influential skincare scene, and hands-on activities that introduce the country’s fast-moving pop culture.
K-pop fans will find their moment as the event culminates with a concert showcasing several energetic performances. A Random Play Dance session will follow, where strangers can turn into dance partners, inviting both loyal fans and curious newcomers to join in the rhythms of Korean pop.
Through this celebration, the Korean Embassy seeks more than mere entertainment. It views the 2025 Korean Culture Week as a gesture of cooperation, aiming to deepen the ties that have connected Morocco and Korea for more than 60 years.
