JD Vance to visit Armenia and Azerbaijan in February, says Trump
US President Donald Trump announced that Vice President JD Vance will travel to Armenia and Azerbaijan in February as part of Washington’s continued efforts to support peace in the South Caucasus region.
In a statement published on his Truth Social platform, Trump praised Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for honoring the peace agreement signed in Washington last August. He said the upcoming visit aims to reinforce diplomatic momentum and ensure the implementation of the deal.
The agreement, concluded under US mediation, seeks to end a decades-long territorial dispute between the two countries. One of its key provisions is the establishment of a transit corridor through Armenian territory linking Azerbaijan to its western exclave of Nakhchivan. The route has been informally dubbed the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity,” or TRIPP.
According to Trump, the United States will hold development rights along the corridor, strengthening its strategic presence in a region rich in energy resources. He also highlighted plans to deepen strategic cooperation with Azerbaijan, advance a civilian nuclear partnership with Armenia, and secure contracts for US semiconductor manufacturers and defense equipment suppliers.
The February visit by Vice President Vance is expected to underline Washington’s long-term diplomatic and economic engagement in the region.
