Jd sports exits applied nutrition stake in multimillion-dollar deal
British retailer JD Sports Fashion has sold its entire stake in Applied Nutrition in a transaction valued at approximately $66.5 million, marking a strategic shift in its investment portfolio.
The company offloaded its 9.1% shareholding through a secondary share placing, selling millions of shares at a slight discount to the previous market closing price. The deal represents JD Sports’ complete exit from the sports nutrition brand, in which it had been one of the largest shareholders.
Applied Nutrition, known for its range of fitness and wellness products such as protein powders, supplements, and energy drinks, has grown rapidly in recent years. The company has built a strong presence in the health and performance market, attracting both consumers and investors.
The brand, founded by Thomas Ryder, continues to expand following its listing on the London Stock Exchange in 2024. Despite JD Sports’ exit, the company remains under majority ownership of its founder.
Market analysts suggest that the divestment may allow JD Sports to refocus on its core retail operations and streamline its business strategy. The move also reflects broader trends in the retail sector, where companies regularly reassess investments to optimize growth and capital allocation.
The transaction is expected to be finalized in the coming days, with financial institutions overseeing the process as part of standard market operations.
