Ivermectin still not approved or recommended against Covid-19
In recent weeks, confusion has spread online regarding the status of ivermectin in the United States. Some social media users claim that the antiparasitic drug is now officially recognized as a treatment for Covid-19. However, health authorities confirm that this is not the case.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) maintains that ivermectin is only authorized for the treatment of parasitic infections, such as scabies or intestinal worms. It has never been recommended or approved for preventing or treating Covid-19.
The misunderstanding comes from new legislation passed in Texas, which recently became the fifth U.S. state to allow over-the-counter sales of ivermectin. While this makes access easier, it does not change its official medical indications. Many doctors have expressed concern that this decision could encourage misuse and put patients at risk.
Despite persistent claims on the internet suggesting otherwise, there is no scientific evidence confirming ivermectin as an effective treatment against Covid-19. The official guidance remains clear: vaccination and approved antiviral drugs are the recommended tools to combat the virus.
