Iran to Submit New Proposal in Response to US Nuclear Offer
Iran is preparing to submit a counter-proposal to the United States through Oman in response to what it describes as an unacceptable U.S. offer in ongoing nuclear negotiations, according to foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei.
Reuters had earlier noted that Iran was drafting a negative response to the U.S. proposal made in late May. An Iranian diplomat explained that the American plan failed to address key disagreements, including uranium enrichment on Iranian soil, the export of highly enriched uranium, and the lifting of U.S. sanctions.
Baghaei stated that the forthcoming Iranian proposal, once finalized, will be delivered via Oman and will be "reasonable, logical, and balanced." He also mentioned that no date has been set yet for a potential sixth round of direct nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei recently rejected the U.S. offer, claiming it undermines Iran’s national interests and reaffirming Iran’s commitment to continue its uranium enrichment activities.
The standoff stems from the U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement under former President Donald Trump in 2018, which led to the reimposition of sanctions and an increase in Iran’s nuclear activity beyond the deal’s original limitations.
