Investigation underway after mother confesses to killing two children in Lebanon
Lebanese authorities are continuing their investigation into a tragic case in the Choueifat area, south of Beirut, after a Syrian national reportedly confessed to causing the death of her two young children.
According to the Internal Security Forces, the case first came to light in late February when two children were admitted to a hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, both later died. Initial statements from the mother indicated that she had found the children unresponsive at home.
However, following further investigation and forensic analysis, suspicions arose regarding the circumstances of their deaths. Authorities reopened the case and summoned the mother for questioning. During the inquiry, and after being confronted with evidence, she admitted responsibility for the deaths.
Officials stated that legal procedures have been initiated, and the suspect has been referred to the competent judicial authorities. The case has raised concerns about psychological distress and social pressures, which investigators say may have played a role and will be examined as part of the judicial process.
The incident has deeply affected the local community, highlighting the importance of mental health support and social protection systems, particularly for vulnerable families.
