Intel and Hitachi expand AI partnership for industrial manufacturing
Intel and Hitachi have announced a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the deployment of artificial intelligence across industrial environments. The collaboration focuses on integrating advanced computing, industrial expertise and semiconductor capabilities to support next-generation manufacturing, energy systems, mobility infrastructure and other critical sectors.
The agreement brings together Hitachi’s operational technology knowledge and enterprise systems with Intel’s computing platforms and silicon technologies. Both companies plan to develop new industrial computing capabilities designed to improve efficiency, strengthen infrastructure resilience and support large-scale digital transformation across factories and energy networks.
The partnership covers five core areas of development, including foundry tools, quantum computing research, energy optimization systems, custom silicon design and edge artificial intelligence applications. It also includes factory automation initiatives that aim to expand the use of intelligent systems in production environments. Intel indicated that Hitachi’s HMAX Energy platform will be integrated to optimize semiconductor manufacturing operations, including processes within Intel’s own production facilities.
The collaboration aligns with Intel’s broader strategy centered on what the company describes as the “era of intelligence,” where artificial intelligence is deployed across client devices, edge systems and data centers. This vision was presented alongside multiple industrial partnerships involving major technology and manufacturing players, reflecting a coordinated push toward AI-enabled industrial ecosystems.
The deal also reflects a wider industry shift toward what is often referred to as physical artificial intelligence, where AI systems interact directly with machines, robotics and industrial infrastructure. This trend is driving closer cooperation between semiconductor firms and large industrial conglomerates as companies work to extend AI beyond software environments into real-world production systems.
