Indonesian authorities have arrested 13 Japanese nationals suspected of being involved in an organized online fraud operation in West Java, highlighting growing concerns about transnational cybercrime in Southeast Asia.

The arrests were carried out during an operation led by immigration and law-enforcement officials targeting illegal cyber activities. According to local authorities, the suspects allegedly operated a scheme in which they impersonated Japanese police officers in order to deceive victims and demand money.

Officials said the group is believed to have targeted individuals in Japan through online communication platforms, presenting themselves as law-enforcement representatives and claiming that victims were linked to criminal investigations. The suspects allegedly pressured victims to transfer funds to avoid legal consequences.

Authorities confirmed that the suspects were detained during a routine inspection conducted by the Bogor Immigration Office’s intelligence and enforcement unit. Investigators are now working to determine the full extent of the operation and identify possible accomplices.
