India denies reports of alleged Chinese military incursion in Arunachal Pradesh
India has rejected media reports claiming that units of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) had recently crossed into the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh and established military camps in the area.
In an official statement, the Indian Army dismissed the allegations as unfounded, saying that the reports of any recent incursion or the establishment of Chinese military positions in the region were “false and baseless.” The army emphasized that the situation along the border remains under continuous monitoring.
The claims had emerged from reports by a local social organization representing tribal communities in Arunachal Pradesh, which suggested that Chinese forces had advanced into areas along the disputed border and occupied traditional grazing and farming lands. These assertions relate to long-standing sensitivities along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the de facto boundary separating India and China in the Himalayan region.
Despite periodic tensions, both New Delhi and Beijing have maintained diplomatic channels to manage border-related issues. In May, the two countries held the 35th round of talks under the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on border affairs, during which both sides expressed satisfaction with progress in maintaining stability along the LAC.
Arunachal Pradesh remains one of the most sensitive regions in India-China relations, with both countries historically asserting differing territorial claims. While occasional reports of alleged incursions surface, official statements from both sides often emphasize dialogue and existing border management mechanisms to prevent escalation.
Security experts note that misinformation and unverified claims can contribute to heightened public concern in already tense border regions, underscoring the importance of official verification and diplomatic engagement.
The latest denial from India reflects ongoing efforts to manage a complex and sensitive border dispute that continues to shape relations between the two Asian powers.
