In El Jadida, a pilot nursery paves the way for reintegration through agriculture
A pilot plant nursery has been established inside El Jadida 2 local prison as part of a partnership involving a public reintegration foundation and a private company, marking a new step toward rehabilitation through agriculture.
According to prison authorities, the initiative aligns with Morocco’s broader strategy to strengthen vocational training and improve inmates’ access to employment opportunities. The project targets detainees enrolled in agricultural training programs, as well as those interested in working in the farming sector after their release.
Participants receive hands-on and theoretical training in modern agricultural techniques, including hydroponics, fruit tree maintenance, and organic fertilization. The program aims to enhance inmates’ professional skills while promoting responsibility, teamwork, and environmental awareness.
The private partner is responsible for preparing the nursery site, supplying agricultural equipment, and providing technical supervision. Inmates involved in the project also receive financial compensation for their workdays, under the supervision of prison staff.
Authorities say the project will be regularly evaluated and could be expanded to other agricultural-oriented prisons if results prove successful, reinforcing agriculture as a tool for sustainable social reintegration.
