IKEA issues urgent recall for outdoor lighting products due to electric shock risk
Global furniture IKEA has issued a warning to its customers, advising them to cease using specific outdoor LED lighting chains and lamps that have been recalled over safety concerns related to a defective plug. The company’s announcement highlights its commitment to consumer safety, stating that the affected products do not meet established safety standards.
In a statement released on Wednesday, IKEA disclosed that the recall is prompted by a manufacturing error that has led to the identification of certain plugs that can potentially cause electric shock. Despite adhering to required safety assessments, the company found that some plugs used in their outdoor LED lighting products failed to comply with safety regulations intended to prevent water ingress.
IKEA urged customers to halt the use of the affected products immediately and to contact the company’s helplines for a replacement or a full refund. Furthermore, the company advised customers who may have sold or lent these items to notify the recipients to ensure their safety.
The recalled products include the LEDJUS lighting chain in outdoor black, featuring 24 lights, and the STRALA LED lighting chain in outdoor gold with 24 star lights. Detailed product codes for the affected items have also been shared by the company, including the LED driver codes ICPSH24-2-IL-1, with various production identifiers.
This recall is not an isolated incident for IKEA. The company has previously taken similar actions, notably in 2017 when it recalled unstable dressers that posed serious risks of tipping over and harming children. Last year, the company also recalled Varmfront power banks due to a fire hazard.
IKEA has expressed its sincere apologies to affected customers and encourages them to visit its website or contact customer service for further information regarding the recall.
