Ifrane International Festival: A Cultural Symphony Amidst Cedar Forests

In the serene town of Ifrane, known for its tranquil ambiance and fresh mountain air, an unexpected vibrancy fills the streets as the sixth edition of the Ifrane International Festival returns. Organized by the Association Forum d'Ifrane pour la Culture et le Développement (AFICED) in collaboration with local authorities, this year's event promises a captivating array of performances.

The festival commenced on Tuesday, August 20, with a mesmerizing display of Ahidouss, an ancient art form that harmonized multiple groups into an enchanting symphony. The audience, comprising both locals and global visitors, was enthralled by the poetic verses and vibrant dances, a testament to Morocco’s rich musical heritage.

Artistic director Nabil El Jay highlighted that this edition aligns with Morocco’s Youth Day celebrations, under the theme “The Forest: A National Heritage.” This theme was chosen to emphasize Ifrane’s unique position amidst the Middle Atlas cedar forests and to promote awareness about their ecological importance. A scientific conference titled “The Tree of Hope” will further explore this topic, enriching the festival’s cultural offerings.

This year’s lineup is a dynamic blend of tradition and modernity, featuring prominent artists such as Najat Atabou, Hatim Ammor, and Maître Gims. Their performances are set to draw music enthusiasts from across the globe.

The festival's opening night, attended by the Governor of Ifrane Province, Abdelhamid El Mazid, also paid homage to Soufiane El Bakkali, the Olympic and world champion in the 3,000m steeplechase, celebrating his outstanding achievements at the Paris Olympics.

Renowned Amazigh artists, including Imane El Hajeb, Badr Ouabi, and Yamna, graced the stage, lighting up the night with their captivating music. Additionally, this year introduces the “Village of Local Products” exhibition and various sports competitions, featuring regional tournaments in volleyball, badminton, futsal, clay pigeon shooting, and fishing.

Since its inception in 2016, the Ifrane International Festival has aimed to highlight the economic, natural, and tourist potential of the region while celebrating Morocco’s diverse cultural heritage and its openness to global influences.
