HM King Mohammed VI Orders Opening of Newly Built and Restored Mosquées Ahead of Ramadan
In a significant move ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Amir Al-Mouminine, has directed the opening of mosquées that have been newly constructed, reconstructed, or restored by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs. This initiative underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to preserving and enhancing its religious infrastructure.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, a total of 26 mosquées will be opened to the public. These include four newly built structures, thirteen that have undergone reconstruction, and nine that have been meticulously restored. Collectively, these mosquées can accommodate up to 14,836 worshippers, reflecting a significant investment in fostering communal worship and spiritual growth.
The project, which carries a total cost of 160 million dirhams, highlights the Kingdom’s dedication to maintaining its cultural and religious heritage while meeting the needs of its growing population. The timing of this announcement, just before Ramadan, is particularly poignant, as it allows worshippers to begin the holy month in newly revitalized spaces designed to enhance their spiritual experience.
This initiative not only reinforces Morocco’s role as a custodian of Islamic traditions but also demonstrates the government’s proactive approach to ensuring that places of worship remain accessible, functional, and aligned with contemporary standards. As Ramadan approaches, the opening of these mosquées is set to provide a renewed sense of community and devotion for countless worshippers across the nation.
