HM King Mohammed VI declares October 31 as “Aïd Al Wahda” (Unity Day)
Rabat, November 4, 2025 — HM King Mohammed VI has decreed that October 31 will henceforth be a national holidaynamed “Aïd Al Wahda” (Feast of Unity). The day will also mark an occasion on which the Monarch grants royal pardons to citizens.
The date coincides with the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025) on the Sahara issue, a moment described by the Royal Cabinet as a “historic turning point” in Morocco’s national cause.
According to the Royal Cabinet statement, this new national celebration embodies the unity of the Moroccan nation from north to south, not only in territorial integrity but also in its social, economic, and political cohesion.
The King emphasized that this holiday symbolizes Morocco’s unwavering commitment to its national unity and territorial integrity, serving as a unifying moment for citizens to reaffirm their attachment to the Kingdom’s sacred values.
“Aïd Al Wahda” is the first national holiday decreed by HM King Mohammed VI, and the first newly established one since 1979 (excluding the formal recognition of the Amazigh New Year, which institutionalized an existing tradition).
Additionally, the King decided that the Royal Speech will henceforth be delivered on two annual occasions:
- The Throne Day, and
- The Opening of Parliament.
However, as Commander of the Faithful and Head of State, His Majesty reserves the right to address the Nation at any time he deems appropriate.
Festivities marking the 50th anniversary of the Green March will still take place as planned, but without a royal address this year.
