His Majesty King Mohammed VI Invites Nigerian President to Morocco to Advance Strategic Partnership
His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco extended a warm invitation to Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu during a constructive phone call between the two leaders on Wednesday.
The royal court reported that the monarchs discussed strengthening bilateral relations, which have flourished in recent years between Morocco and Africa's largest economy. At the forefront of their agenda was the monumental Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline - a significant project initiated in 2016 to promote regional integration and unlock the socio-economic potential of West Africa.
The ambitious 5,600 km pipeline, with over 1600 km traversing Morocco, has received firm commitments from both nations to catalyze energy security and power pan-African growth through their strategic partnership.
In his annual Green March commemoration speech, King Mohammed VI affirmed Morocco's commitment to realizing the pipeline's far-reaching benefits, not only for neighboring African countries but also for energy-starved Europe. The project is set to connect over 11 regional nations to Nigeria's abundant gas reserves.
Senegal has also renewed its support for the pipeline, which Minister of Petroleum Antoine Felix Abdoulaye Diome labeled an "ambitious" venture that will uplift people's lives. During recent talks with the Director General of Morocco's Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines in Dakar, he cited joint Moroccan-Senegalese efforts to promote South-South cooperation and drive collective prosperity under the project.
As two pivotal African nations strengthen their strategic multi-sector partnership, HM King Mohammed's personal invitation to President Tinubu signifies joint political will to advance the landmark Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline and other collaborative initiatives that cement bilateral ties.
