Heavy Rainfall in Tata Region: Multiple Dead, Many Missing as Floods Devastate Area
In a tragic development, several people have died and many are missing after severe thunderstorms struck Tata and nearby provinces in Morocco. A preliminary report from local authorities indicates that the heavy rainfall caused flooding, which destroyed homes in the village of Aoukerda, part of the Tamanarte municipality in the Akka Circle.
In response to the disaster, all relevant services have been mobilized to address the situation. Human and logistical resources have been dispatched to offer immediate aid to affected communities, clear isolated areas, and restore connectivity.
The recent severe weather has prompted Morocco's weather office to issue multiple alerts over the past few days, forecasting strong thunderstorms and high winds in various areas. On Friday, the Ministry of Equipment urged road and highway users to exercise extreme caution due to severe weather conditions that could result in low or zero visibility. This warning was reinforced by a new alert issued on Saturday, predicting very heavy thunderstorms expected to continue through Sunday night.
Meanwhile, heavy rains also struck Ouarzazate on Friday, causing houses to collapse in several neighborhoods. Flash floods submerged streets and alleys, turning them into ponds and halting traffic for over two hours on multiple roadways, according to reports.
