Gold falls below 4,200 dollars as Iran conflict pressures demand
Gold declined sharply and moved below 4,200 dollars per ounce for the first time since late March. The metal traded at 4,190.62 dollars, marking a daily drop of 1.65 percent. The move extended a broader selloff that has erased the year to date gains in gold and challenged its role as a safe haven during geopolitical stress.
Market pressure intensified as the conflict involving Iran and the United States fed into higher oil prices and persistent inflation concerns. Energy markets reacted to disruptions in key shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, which kept crude prices elevated near multi month highs. Higher energy costs reinforced expectations that inflation would remain sticky, limiting the scope for near term rate cuts by the Federal Reserve.
Investor sentiment also shifted after stronger than expected labor data in the United States, which showed solid job creation and reduced urgency for monetary easing. The combination of resilient economic indicators and inflation risk kept bond yields elevated. This environment reduced the attractiveness of non yielding assets such as gold and increased demand for cash and yield bearing instruments.
Analysts pointed to technical weakness after gold fell below its 200 day moving average for the first time in nearly three years. Market forecasts from major financial institutions lowered short term price targets, with expectations of a potential decline toward 4,000 dollars if volatility in the Strait of Hormuz persists. Despite short term weakness, longer term projections still anticipate recovery toward higher levels if monetary policy shifts or geopolitical tensions escalate further.
