Germany arrests three suspected Hamas members in Berlin
German federal prosecutors announced on Wednesday, October 1, that three suspected members of Hamas were arrested in Berlin. They are accused of acquiring weapons intended for “deadly attacks against Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany.”
During the arrests, authorities seized an AK-47 assault rifle, several pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition. The prosecutor’s office described the suspects as “foreign operatives” of Hamas.
The men were identified as Abed Al G. and Ahmad I., both German citizens, and Wael F. M., born in Lebanon, whose nationality has not yet been formally confirmed. According to the investigation, they had been working “since at least the summer of 2025” to obtain firearms and ammunition in Germany on behalf of the Palestinian Islamist movement.
The suspects will appear before an investigating judge on Thursday, who will decide on the prosecution’s request for pre-trial detention.
Germany’s position is strongly influenced by its historical responsibility in the Holocaust. Chancellor Friedrich Merz recently reaffirmed Berlin’s unwavering support for Israel, pledging to do “everything in [his] power to ensure that Jews can live, celebrate, and study without fear throughout Germany.”
