German national arrested in Tangier over international warrant linked to kidnapping case
Security services in Tangier have arrested a German national who was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by German judicial authorities, Moroccan officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old suspect is accused of involvement in serious crimes including kidnapping, unlawful detention, threats, extortion, and violent intimidation. According to security sources, the arrest was carried out as part of coordinated efforts between Morocco’s DGSN and Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office, with support from international police cooperation channels.
Investigators believe the suspect entered Morocco using falsified German travel documents and identity papers under a false name. Further checks revealed that he had been wanted in connection with criminal activities allegedly committed in Germany since 2021.
The case is also linked to an Interpol Red Notice, which detailed accusations of kidnapping and extortion involving the use of dangerous substances.
Following his arrest, the suspect was placed in police custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office, which has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding identity fraud and document forgery.
Authorities in Rabat have informed their German counterparts as extradition procedures are expected to be initiated. Officials say the operation highlights Morocco’s continued commitment to international security cooperation and the tracking of transnational crime suspects.
