French media regulator warns Radio France over alleged under-representation of RN airtime
France’s audiovisual regulator Arcom has issued a formal warning to public broadcaster Radio France over what it describes as the “under-representation” of the far-right National Rally (Rassemblement National, RN) during daytime programming.
The decision, announced on Thursday, places Radio France under formal notice to correct the imbalance in its political coverage, following concerns about compliance with rules governing fair and pluralistic representation in public media.
Arcom is responsible for monitoring audiovisual content in France and ensuring that political parties receive equitable airtime, particularly during periods of heightened political activity. The regulator’s intervention reflects ongoing scrutiny of how public broadcasters distribute visibility among political movements.
The issue concerns daytime broadcasts, where the RN reportedly received less exposure compared to other major political groups, according to the regulator’s assessment.
Radio France, headquartered at the Maison de la Radio in Paris, is expected to respond to the notice and may be required to adjust its editorial practices to ensure greater balance in political representation.
