France: Macron hits record low approval rating
French President Emmanuel Macron has reached the lowest approval ratings of his presidency since his election in 2017, according to a recent Ifop poll conducted for the Journal du Dimanche. Only 17% of respondents expressed favorable opinions of the president, while 83% disapproved of his performance.
The survey, conducted online between September 18 and 19, 2025, among a representative sample of 1,000 adults, shows Macron losing two points compared to a previous poll taken just ten days earlier. The current disapproval rate surpasses levels seen during the Yellow Vest protests in 2018–2019.
A record 54% of respondents reported being “very dissatisfied” with Macron’s leadership, reflecting ongoing political tensions in France over the past year.
In contrast, new Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has gained popularity, with 42% of respondents approving of his work, up four points in the same poll. Lecornu is currently engaged in consultations with political and union leaders to draft the national budget.
