France: illegal rave party in Morbihan ends as authorities dismantle sound system

An unauthorized rave party held in a wooded area of Morbihan has come to an end after several days of activity, with authorities confirming that the sound system had been shut down and dismantled. The event, which attracted around 2,000 participants, led to more than 1,900 fines being issued by law enforcement.

The gathering began on Saturday in a forested area of the commune of Les Forges-de-Lanouée. According to the local authorities, a large number of participants left the site overnight, significantly reducing the number of people remaining at the location.

Authorities monitor departure of participants

By Tuesday morning, only around 200 attendees, commonly known as “teufeurs,” were still present at the site, according to figures released by the prefecture of Morbihan.

The authorities confirmed that the sound equipment used for the event had been switched off and removed. Vehicles transporting the equipment remained on location temporarily as part of the dismantling process.

Gendarmerie units deployed around the area continued to monitor departures, with participants being systematically checked and fined when violations were identified.

More than 1,900 fines issued

Since the beginning of the gathering, authorities recorded slightly more than 1,900 violations. These included participation in an unauthorized gathering, suspected drug-related offences and various road traffic violations.

The prefecture said the controls were carried out as part of measures aimed at maintaining public order and ensuring a safe departure from the site.

Local authorities respond to unauthorized event

The event took place without official authorization, prompting intervention from local authorities and security forces. Large-scale gatherings of this type have regularly raised concerns among local officials due to their potential impact on the environment, traffic conditions and public safety.

The authorities’ response focused on supervising the end of the gathering rather than carrying out an immediate evacuation, allowing participants to leave progressively under monitoring.

As the final attendees depart, the Morbihan prefecture is expected to continue assessing the consequences of the event and reviewing the measures implemented during the operation.
