FPA demands accountability after Gaza strike kills five journalists

Jerusalem, August 25, 2025 — The Foreign Press Association (FPA) in Jerusalem has called on Israeli authorities to provide urgent explanations following the death of five journalists in an airstrike that hit Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.

Among the victims was Palestinian cameraman Houssam el-Masri, who worked for Reuters. His equipment was found scattered on the site of the bombing, alongside those of other reporters and civilians who were killed.

In a statement, the FPA said it was “outraged and shocked” by the incident, stressing that there had been no prior warning before the strikes.

“We demand immediate explanations from the Israeli army and the Prime Minister’s Office,” the association declared, urging Israel to put an end to what it described as a deliberate targeting of journalists.

The FPA added that “too many journalists have been killed in Gaza without any justification”, calling for accountability and stronger protection for media workers in conflict zones.

This latest tragedy adds to the growing toll of reporters killed during the ongoing war in Gaza, raising international concerns over press freedom, civilian protection, and the rules of armed conflict.
